A Typical Day in Les Contamines
Tired? Work-worn? Just can’t seem to get those eyes open first
thing? We know mornings can be tough so imagine this...a gentle tap
at your door and a mug of steaming coffee (or pot of fragrant tea,
if you’d prefer) delivered with a friendly smile. As the door
quietly closes and the smell of fresh baking wafts
through, you realise that you are starving. Must be all that mountain
air! Throw back the curtains and remind yourself why you chose the
Les Contamines Montjoie ski resort...mountains, mountains
and more beautiful mountains.
A
steaming shower and you’re off to breakfast in the light and
airy dining room. A feast awaits you of home baked goods, cereals,
fresh fruit, yoghurts, local confitures and an ever-changing hot
dish like good ol’ fashioned bacon and eggs, fluffy omelettes
or kedgeree. Go on! You’ve earned it!
Around a convivial table, discuss the plans for the day ahead.
Remember that we are always available to suggest possibilities based
on our intimate knowledge of the area.
Isn’t it great that your ski clothes, fresh from the sechoir,
are warm and dry? Then, the ultimate luxury, slip into those warm
pliable ski boots…straight from the heated boot rack. Ski
equipment is securely loaded onto one of the chalet vehicles and
in minutes, you’ve arrived at the ski lift station of your
choice. Pick-up arrangements are made with the ever accommodating
chalet staff but for those of you who wish to remain a little more
independent, the ski bus service (which passes close to our front
door) is carefully explained.
Hit the slopes...whatever your skill level or
mood, there is skiing and boarding to please everyone. Well-maintained
pistes, modern equipment,
snow park facilities, wide open spaces and stunning natural beauty.
What more could your heart desire?
A break for lunch...try one of our scrumptious
picnic lunch packs (available at a small additional cost) in the
purpose-built picnic rooms scattered over the mountainside. Alternatively,
lunch at one of the many high quality mountain restaurants...again,
we’d be happy to tell you about our favourite establishments.
Recharged
and eager to set off again, spend the afternoon in the great outdoors.
Maybe you’ll trade in your ski boots for a set of snow shoes
(raquettes in the local lingo) and explore the Les Contamines
Nature Reserve. If that doesn’t appeal, what about
donning a pair of skates in the natural ice rink located in the
village, a husky dog sled ride or a horse drawn carriage? For the die-hard skiers and
boarders, there are always more mountain slopes to explore and seemingly
endless areas of powder.
Sated at last, or maybe just out of lift time, head back to Chalet
Chovettaz where afternoon tea awaits you. Don’t feel guilty
about one more slice of that delicious homemade cake or another
confectionary delight – you’re on vacation!
Decision time….will it be the roaring log fires to warm you,
a long hot soak in the bath, a session in the outdoor hot tub as
the sun sets over the Mont Blanc Massif, an invigorating
sauna, delivering yourself into the hands of our professional
masseuse, or a quiet dip into that best selling novel on
your private balcony...so many things to choose
from.
Around 7.30pm, everyone gathers around the spectacular
open fire for aperitifs and canapés. Tall tales
are told, secrets swapped and a warm camaraderie develops as the
chalet guests all move through to the dining room.
Seated at the opulent candlelit table a feast unfolds before you
accompanied by specially chosen complementary wines.
Return to the fireside for coffee and after-dinner
drinks. Thoroughly mellow, for some guests the night holds board
game challenges, the latest DVD, more conversation with friends,
a moonlit stroll or trying out the local nightlife. Other guests
drift gently to their rooms, eager for the next perfect day to arrive...
